The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has announced a change of plans regarding their upcoming protest, which aims to demand the removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, and his two deputies. Initially scheduled to take place on July 30, the protest has now been rescheduled for August 13.

In a letter addressed to the police on Tuesday, July 23, the Minority explained the reason behind the change in date. According to the letter, many of the Minority’s members are expected to attend the launch of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) 2024 campaign in Tamale, which is scheduled for July 27. With this prior commitment, the Minority felt that they would not have sufficient time to prepare for the protest, hence the need for a postponement.

This protest is the second in a series of demonstrations organized by the Minority, who are calling for the removal of Dr. Addison and his deputies due to concerns over their handling of the country’s economy. The Minority has been vocal about their disapproval of the Bank of Ghana’s policies, which they believe have contributed to the current economic challenges facing the nation.

By rescheduling the protest, the Minority hopes to ensure that they can mobilize enough support and resources to make their voices heard. With the new date set for August 13, the Minority is expected to continue their push for accountability and transparency in the management of Ghana’s economy.

“Following our discussion and conclusion of the date with your office, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced the 27th of July 2024 as the date of the launch of our national campaign in Tamale.â€

“Given that this date is so close to our planned demonstration in Accra, the 27th July date has become inconvenient.â€

“Pursuant to sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), I hereby write to request for the rescheduling of the demonstration from its original date of Tuesday 30th July, 2024 to Tuesday 13th August, 2024, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. The route remains the same.â€
