The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling party in Ghana, has initiated the procedure to select its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general election. On May 26, 2023, various individuals and groups representing potential flagbearer hopefuls collected nomination forms from the NPP headquarters in Accra.

Leading the pack was Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whose forms were collected by a group known as the “Bawumia Fun Club.” Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko’s forms were picked up by a team led by one of his aides, Benjamin Armah.

Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong also secured his nomination forms, along with Francis Addai-Nimoh, the former Member of Parliament for Mampong. George Obeng Antwi, Addai-Nimoh’s spokesperson, expressed optimism that his candidate would become Ghana’s President in 2025, emphasizing the need for a leader from outside the current administration to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
The NPP officially opened the nomination process on May 26, allowing interested individuals to obtain nomination forms from the Party Headquarters until June 26, 2023.
