In the local language Twi, Vanderpuye expressed that when the money arrives, the constituents should accept it and spend it wisely because it belongs to all Ghanaians. He further promised to bring some of his fellow Members of Parliament to Assin North in the following week to rally support for Mr. Quayson’s re-election as the MP.
Although the High Court ruled in 2020 that Mr. Quayson’s election as MP was null and void, the Assin North seat has not yet been declared vacant. On May 17, the Supreme Court ordered Parliament to remove Mr. Quayson’s name from all records, but the written judgement has not been released. As a result, the Minority refused to vote on the nomination of Gertrude Esaaba Araba Sackey Torkornoo as Chief Justice on May 26.
