The Minority faction in Parliament has decided to postpone their planned protest against Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies to September 12, 2023. Initially, the demonstration was scheduled for September 5, 2023.
This change in date is a direct result of the legal proceedings that took place in court on Monday. According to a statement signed by Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the court faced challenges in issuing an immediate ruling due to the complex legal objections raised by the Minority’s lawyers. As a result, the court has requested more time to deliberate and plans to provide its ruling on Friday, September 8, 2023.

The Minority caucus is encouraging Ghanaians to stand firm in their commitment to protect their constitutional right to protest. They have assured the public that the demonstration will indeed take place on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
Calls for the resignation of Dr. Addison and his deputies have grown stronger following the announcement in the Central Bank’s annual statement, which reported a GH¢60.81 billion loss in the 2022 fiscal year.
Originally, the group had intended to march from Makola, through Rawlings Park and Opera Square, ultimately reaching the front of the Bank of Ghana’s headquarters in Accra.
However, the police suggested altering the route, citing concerns about overcrowding and potential disruptions to public order, safety, and essential services along the original route. Instead, they proposed an alternative path starting at Parliament House, passing through the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, and concluding at Independence Square. The Minority caucus rejected this alternative route. Consequently, on August 30, the police filed an injunction to halt the march.
