John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, claims that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are privately anticipating his victory in the December 7 general elections.
According to Mahama, these NPP members believe that a loss for their party would allow it to reorganize. Speaking to supporters during his tour of the Upper East region, the former President explained that many within the NPP feel that power is concentrated in the hands of a select few, which is why they think a return to opposition is necessary.

“There are many of my friends in the NPP who come and tell me, ‘NDC, you have to do well and get our party out of power’.
He added, “These are NPP members saying this because the party has been taken over by a small group of people. This isn’t the NPP of Kufuor’s era. It has been hijacked, and so some democrats and others in the NPP actually want the party to lose so they can go back into opposition and reorganize.”
Mahama also pledged to complete all unfinished projects that were abandoned by the Akufo-Addo administration if he is elected on December 7. He emphasized the importance of finishing ongoing projects before starting new ones to conserve resources.
During his address to the chiefs and queen mothers at the Bawku Naaba’s Palace in the Upper East Region, Mahama expressed disappointment that many projects initiated by the NDC government had been neglected by the NPP.

“I cut sod to start the Tamne irrigation project and we didn’t complete it before we left. We finished phase one; this government continued it slowly but still, it hasn’t been done. This project will bring about 3000 hectares of land under irrigation so that our young people can do dry season gardening, they can do all-year-round gardening so that they don’t go down South to look for menial jobs.
“So, when we come, we’ll continue the Tamne project because we know it’s going to benefit four districts in this area,” he said.
