After serving 13 years in prison, well-known Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist Vybz Kartel has shared some advice for the younger generation.
The 48-year-old was released following a judgment by the Jamaican Court of Appeal, and a widely circulated video shows him leaving the prison.
Shortly after his release, Vybz Kartel—formerly known as Adidja Palmer—urged young people to “stay out of crime, as time spent in prison is a waste of life.”
In the video, he is seen being escorted to a car by his friends, where he delivers this advice.

“Tell the youth to stay out of crime. It’s not worth it; it’s a waste of life and a waste of time, brother,” he said.
Ghanaian dancehall artists Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have since praised Vybz Kartel’s release and expressed their intention to collaborate with him soon.
Vybz Kartel, along with three co-defendants, was imprisoned in Jamaica following their 2011 arrests and 2014 conviction for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never found.
The conviction was based on a largely circumstantial case, which included testimony from a discredited witness and phone and video evidence obtained from his BlackBerry Torch.
