The Midwest gothic post-punk outfit The House Flies are back with their first new music since 2024’s Mannequin Deposit, and their latest single, “Sweet Foxhound,” proves the wait was worth it. Set to be released on September 16, 2025, the track is a brooding, cinematic storm of shadowy guitar textures, pulsing bass, and hypnotic vocals that pull you into a haze of dark atmosphere and restless motion.

What makes “Sweet Foxhound” hit so hard is the way it balances menace and melody. Alex Riggen’s vocals feel like they’re half incantation, half confession, hovering just above the dense instrumental mix. The guitars, now with the added weight of new member Burnie Eckardt (Dynoride), carve out jagged yet entrancing layers, giving the track an even more immersive edge. Ozzie Woods’ bass work anchors the piece with a steady, pulsating heartbeat, while Nick Pompou’s drums push the momentum forward, lending the song a sense of urgency that keeps it from ever collapsing fully into the abyss.

Interestingly, “Sweet Foxhound” traces its origins back to the Mannequin Deposit sessions. It’s been played live before, but here it arrives as a fully realized beast: darker, sharper, and more self-assured. It bridges The House Flies’ past work with where they’re headed next, a sound that promises to be longer, heavier, and even more haunting on their upcoming album.
