Not every ghost story needs to be frightening. Sometimes, the most interesting ones are about finding friendship in unexpected places. That’s the lovely idea behind “There Was a Ghost Who Had No Friends,” an original single from Monster’s Halloween Party. Combining big-band swing, jazz and orchestral pop, the song tells a playful story about a lonely ghost who desperately wants a friend but struggles to find the courage to introduce himself.

The musical arrangement is one of its strongest features. There is a warm groove running through the track, supported by bouncing drums, lively instrumentation and smooth vocal performances. I like the decision to keep the sound light and theatrical, almost like something taken from an animated musical. The live vocals and organic instrumentation give the production plenty of character, while the orchestral touches add to its cinematic appeal. Everything works together to make the storytelling enjoyable without becoming overly complicated.

This follows a shy ghost who watches children playing from a distance, longing to join them. His attention eventually turns to Danny, a boy who has also experienced loneliness. When Danny loses his favourite toys, the ghost retrieves them, hoping to make a connection. His first attempt creates fear rather than friendship, but he eventually finds the courage to reveal himself and ask Danny to stay. It’s a simple story with a lovely message about taking chances and reaching out.

What makes this release particularly enjoyable is how naturally the music supports its message. Beneath the playful presentation is a meaningful reminder that friendship sometimes begins with one brave step. Monster’s Halloween Party delivers an entertaining, memorable story-song for listeners of all ages.
