The United Kingdom government has apologized to Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi after an immigration employee admitted to wrongfully handing him a detention letter during a search for a man who impersonated him in order to commit perjury, forgery, and identity theft.
According to a statement on the Labour Party’s website, the UK government also acknowledged the unfavorable treatment he received was “completely unacceptable,” and delivered a personal apologies.

“Frankly, the Immigration Official’s action has been appalling – and we are sorry,” UK immigration officials were cited as saying.

Diran Onifade, spokesman for the party’s Campaign Council, stated in a statement released on Wednesday, April 12, that the former governor of Anambra was detained and questioned for a duplicate charge, implying that someone was impersonating him in London.

On Good Friday, April 7, 2023, immigration officers were claimed to have approached Obi as he arrived at Heathrow Airport in London from Nigeria.

Officials handed him a detention note and told him to step aside as he was waiting in line for the proper airport processes.

“He was questioned for a long time, which was unusual for a man who had lived in that country for over a decade.” Since the impersonator is still at large, the scenario is unthinkable, as Obi could be implicated in a series of prohibited acts and even framed in a way that would be a huge embarrassment to him, his family, his party, the Obidian Movement, and indeed Nigeria, where he currently and undeniably remains the people’s conscience.

Immigration officers, who were also caught aback by the public reaction, were compelled to admit that Obi was being questioned for a ‘DUPLICATION crime,’ which means that someone had been impersonating him in London.

The high consequence of the infraction is that the impostor could be doing serious crimes and other heinous activities in Obi’s name,” Onifade explained.

Remember that the federal government indicted Obi and his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed of treason last week for allegedly “inciting people to violence.”
