Edward Enninful, the leading figure at British Vogue as its editor-in-chief, has been designated as the most influential black individual in the UK for the year 2024. This recognition comes from Powerful Media’s annual list, which aims to spotlight role models of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage, inspiring young people.
The 2024 list includes other exceptional figures like Afua Kyei, the chief financial officer of the Bank of England, and Steven Bartlett, known as a star from Dragon’s Den and a podcaster.

Enninful, the first black man to hold the esteemed position at British Vogue, will be resigning to concentrate on the brand’s global expansion and pursue other ventures. His role as the European editorial director of Condé Nast is another facet of his influential career.
The Powerlist, which features outstanding individuals across diverse fields such as business, science, technology, and the arts, also highlights the contributions of notable figures like Lord Woolley of Woodford, who co-founded Operation Black Vote and serves as a principal at Cambridge University’s Homerton College.
Munroe Bergdorf, a significant figure in modeling and activism, and personalities like comedian Mo Gilligan and entrepreneur Patricia Bright, further underscore their impactful contributions. Previous top rankers on the Powerlist include Jacky Wright, the former chief digital officer and corporate vice-president at Microsoft US, seven-time Formula One champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, and former Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman.
Edward Enninful, born in Ghana and a British editor and stylist, initiated his career in the fashion industry at the age of 18 as the fashion director of i-D, a prominent British fashion magazine. He maintained this role for over two decades and extended his influence as a contributing fashion editor at Vogue Italia and American Vogue, in addition to serving as the creative fashion director at W magazine. His distinctive style and visionary approach positioned him as a notable figure in the fashion industry. In 2017, he took the helm at British Vogue as its editor-in-chief, yet he resigned from this position after a brief tenure in 2023.
