
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, recounted an incident where an individual deceived him by fabricating his wife’s death to extort money. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Akuapem North parliamentary candidate explained that the fraudster presented his wife’s obituary to him, claiming he needed financial support for her funeral.

Despite requesting proof and being informed about the alleged death, Mr. Awuku admitted to falling victim to the deception, contributing money towards the funeral. He shared this experience to highlight how politicians are occasionally targeted for financial aid through deceptive means.
He stated that, it took a meeting with the man’s friend for him to know he was deceived.
“About a month later, I met him and asked why he was no longer in black, just a short period after his wife’s burial. He was with someone, and the person asked him when his wife passed but he responded he doesn’t have to tell him everything.
