iPhone 15 Pro Max to Get Periscope Lens With 5-6x Optical Zoom

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, along with the rest of the iPhone 15 series, is slated to be released later this year. The smartphone was earlier rumored to be announced as the iPhone 15 Ultra. Several sources in recent months have suggested a number of design and specification upgrades and changes over its predecessors. It is projected to have significantly narrow bezels, a titanium frame, and a price rise. According to a recent report, which is supported by previous reports, the Pro Max device will have substantially increased optical zoom lenses this time.

According to MacRumors, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will include a periscope lens with up to 5-6x optical zoom. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in June 2022 that periscope technology would be included into the telephoto lens, enabling for up to 6x zoom while taking photos with the rear camera without distortion or image quality loss.

A periscope lens bends or folds the light captured by the image sensor, resulting in a greater distance between camera modules inside the smartphone’s tiny size. This technology allows for greater optical zoom and is already used by several Android firms, including Samsung, Google, and Huawei, with phones like the Pixel 7 Pro and Galaxy S23 Ultra offering 5x to 10x optical zoom.

Kuo had indicated in a series of tweets earlier this year that only one iPhone 16 series model will include a periscope lens. This could be one of Apple’s efforts to increase demand for the concerned high-end model, as it is likely to appear in one of the Pro models.

Kuo earlier stated that the forthcoming iPhone 15 series will include USB-Type C connections. However, the Type C connectors on these iPhone models will only support fast charging with company-certified cords.

Another prominent analyst, Jeff Pu, said in a research note that the iPhone 15 Pro models may be priced higher this year than its predecessors. Pu speculates that the cost could be linked to a number of rumored hardware enhancements, including as a periscope lens, a new titanium frame, and an A17 Bionic CPU with more RAM.
The iPhone 15 series, or at least the two top-tier Pro models, were intended to include solid-state buttons with haptic input from extra Taptic Engines, however it was recently revealed that Apple had likely abandoned the notion. The additional work on this particular hardware would result in a longer production period. According to recent reports, Apple is sticking with its two-button volume rocker design in order to meet production timelines.
