The Secretary-General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, has criticized the President for embarking on non-essential projects while the country is struggling economically. Speaking at the 2023 May Day celebration in Bolgatanga, Dr. Baah questioned the government’s priorities, noting that it was investing in unnecessary projects instead of focusing on creating jobs for the people.
“We are aware of some non-essential projects that the government is embarking on,” Dr. Baah said. “The country is facing enormous economic difficulties, and it is important that we focus on creating jobs and improving the welfare of workers. It is not the time to be investing in projects that are not essential.”

Dr. Baah also criticized the government’s handling of the country’s debt, saying that it was unsustainable and putting a strain on the economy. “The debt is growing at an alarming rate, and it is affecting the livelihoods of the people. We need a sustainable solution to the debt problem, and the government must take urgent steps to address this issue,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of workers in the country and called for their welfare to be a top priority. “Workers are the backbone of the economy, and their welfare must be a top priority for the government. We need policies that will create jobs, improve wages, and enhance social protection for workers,” he added.
