Kwesi Pratt’s emotional reaction to Godfred Dame’s leaked tape [Watch]

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has expressed shock and dismay at the conduct of Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame regarding the ongoing ambulance procurement case. During a panel discussion on “Good Morning Ghana” on May 29, 2024, Pratt discussed an audio recording between the Attorney General and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, which he believes demonstrates clear misconduct by Dame.

Pratt highlighted a particularly troubling segment of the recording where Dame allegedly asked Jakpa to produce a fake medical excuse for the judge to facilitate his travel plans, thereby delaying the trial. This action, according to Pratt, severely undermines the integrity of the country’s justice system.

“For the Attorney General to call an accused person and to tell the accused person that ‘I’m going to travel, I don’t want to be in court so you, the accused person, get a fake medical report and present it to the court so that the trial would not come on and I would have the opportunity to travel.’ My goodness,” Pratt Jnr. exclaimed.

He further stated, “Forget the ambulance case, forget everything else and concentrate on this one. Where would this be tolerated? Where in the world would this be tolerated? Who in his right conscience can defend this? I don’t know what to say. This is so mind-boggling.”

Pratt was particularly appalled by Dame’s request for Jakpa to fabricate a medical report, questioning the ethical standards and legality of such an action. “For the Attorney General to call an accused person and to tell the accused person that ‘I’m going to travel, I don’t want to be in court so you, the accused person, get a fake medical report and present it to the court so that the trial would not come on and I would have the opportunity to travel.’ My goodness,” he exclaimed.

He concluded by underscoring the gravity of the situation, indicating that such behavior should not be tolerated anywhere in the world and is indefensible. Pratt noted that the conversation suggested multiple prior meetings between Dame and Jakpa, adding to the severity of the misconduct.

Pratt’s passionate critique highlights the broader implications for the justice system, calling for immediate and decisive action to address the issue and restore public trust.

“The tape also disproves the claim by the Attorney General’s office that Godfred Dame was ambushed by Jakpa at the residence of Supreme Court judge, Justice Yonny Kulendi, because both of them could be heard agreeing to meet there,” he added on Metro TV.
