According to a recent blog post from Microsoft, the current version of Windows 10 will be the final one, and support for the operating system is scheduled to end in 2025. The tech giant has completed major updates to Windows 10, and the current version, 22H2, will be the last. However, the company will continue to release monthly security updates for all Windows 10 editions until it reaches the end of support on Oct. 14, 2025.
The existing long-term servicing channel, or LTSC, releases will still receive updates beyond the end-of-support date, Microsoft added. This news means that with no new Windows 10 feature updates coming, Microsoft is recommending that users transition over to Windows 11. It is still possible to use Windows 10 after the end-of-support date, but without additional security updates, users’ PCs will become more vulnerable to various security risks.
Windows 11, Microsoft’s latest operating system, began rolling out in October 2021 and was deployed to all eligible devices in May 2022. Windows 11 introduces new design elements and productivity tools and comes with a handful of new features. Users looking to upgrade to Windows 11 can do so for free if their current PC meets the system requirements.
In summary, Windows 10 will no longer receive any new feature updates, and support for the operating system will end in 2025. Microsoft recommends that users transition to Windows 11, as using Windows 10 without additional security updates will make their PCs more vulnerable to security risks. Windows 11 comes with new features and productivity tools and is available as a free upgrade for eligible devices
