
The Phase 2 project with a budget of 70 million dollars was initially projected to reach completion in August of the previous year.
A year later, trial runs are currently in progress in preparation for the upcoming official launch.

In the meantime, travelers who journeyed to Tamale through the airport were pleasantly surprised to experience the brand-new Phase 2 terminal, built at a cost of 70 million dollars, during these trial operations. During a press engagement at the Ministry of Information in September 2022, Alhaji Shanai Alhassan Shaibu, the Northern Regional Minister, announced that the Phase II development of the Tamale International Airport had been finalized and was awaiting its official opening.

The Minister expressed confidence that the region’s economic progress would lead to numerous employment opportunities for local residents.
The newly upgraded Tamale International Airport features a modular terminal building covering around 5,000 square meters, a dedicated Hajj facility, a single-access road, as well as essential water, power, and sewerage infrastructure to support regular operations.
