With the release of “Tiékoroba,” Malian artist Niaréla Papou delivers a bold and infectious single that stands out both musically and thematically. The track, part of his genre-bending EP Le Renouveau (released January 16, 2025), is a collaboration with Brazilian group Morulla, and it masterfully bridges West African tradition with Brazilian rhythm and global groove.

“Tiékoroba” — which translates to “sugar daddy”- tackles a provocative social issue with style and wit: the growing trend of young people forming relationships with older partners for material gain. But rather than judging, the song lays it all out with a funky, satirical edge, inviting listeners to reflect on the values of modern relationships.

Musically, the track is a vibrant fusion of Wassoulou percussion, jazzy basslines, and breezy Brazilian instrumentation, anchored by Papou’s charismatic vocals and the fluid synergy between the two cultural forces. The result is irresistibly danceable and refreshingly bold.
