Burna Boy, the Nigerian musician whose real name is Damini Ogulu, was announced as the recipient of the prestigious “Best International Act” accolade at the recent BET Awards ceremony. The event took place on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, USA. Despite his absence from the show, Burna Boy emerged victorious, surpassing competitors such as Aya Nakamura from France, renowned British artists Ella Mai, Stormzy, and Central Cee, as well as his compatriot Ayra Starr, to claim the award. This achievement solidifies Burna Boy’s position as the most decorated individual in the history of the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” category, having won the title for four consecutive years (2019, 2020, 2021).
