Celebs have feelings of insecurities so don’t body shame us —Selina Boateng

Gospel vocalist Selina Boateng has initiated a movement with the objective of combatting the prevalent practice of body shaming, specifically targeting women, particularly those in the public eye, who become subjects of derogatory comments from online trolls.

Having personally experienced the distressing effects of body shaming, Selina is appealing to individuals engaging in this harmful conduct on social media to cease their actions, reminding them of the tangible and negative consequences that result from their behavior.

“The effects of body shaming are not confined to the public eye. They trickle down to influence societal attitudes towards body image and self-esteem and this toxic behaviour needs to stop.

“Behind every celebrity’s public persona lies a human being with emotions, insecurities, and vulnerabilities. When you make mockery of someone’s appearance, you’re not just attacking their image, but you’re also affecting their mental and emotional well-being,” she added.

Beneath the exterior of each celebrity lies a human being with sensitivities, uncertainties, and susceptibilities. Criticizing someone’s appearance is not merely an attack on their image but also inflicts damage on their psychological and emotional welfare,” she added.

Having openly discussed her own battles with body image in the past, the singer acknowledged the essential nature of body positivity, advocating that no one should be subjected to hurtful critiques regarding their physical appearance.

When questioned about the extent of her campaign, Selina revealed that her endeavor to promote body positivity surpasses her online presence. She intends to collaborate with fellow musicians to orchestrate workshops, seminars, and awareness initiatives aimed at addressing this issue.
