The Ghana Education Service (GES) has ordered the Headmaster and Senior Housemaster of the Ghana National Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale to step aside after a widely circulated video showed students sleeping in toilet cubicles. The video has gone viral on social media, sparking anxiety among parents and the general public.
According to the GES, the school has enough capacity to accommodate an additional 300 students, but only 1467 of the 1790 vacancies listed by the school have been filled. According to a press release issued today by the GES, students sleeping in such a spot is undesirable.
The Regional Director of Education has been tasked with conducting an investigation and reporting back in two weeks. The GES informed all stakeholders and the public in the announcement that it will continue to ensure that pupils in its care are in a safe school environment. This occurrence has generated major concerns regarding the school’s management and the safety of its kids.

The GES has vowed to take adequate action to prevent such events from occurring in the future. It also urged parents to be calm while investigations are underway, assuring them that their children’s safety and well-being are of the utmost importance.
