Speaker Alban Bagbin has issued a caution to Members of Parliament (MPs) regarding their punctuality for sittings. He warned that any parliamentarian arriving late for the next session will be barred from entering the Chamber.

This admonishment came during the proceedings on Friday, December 8, 2023, as Mr. Bagbin expressed his concerns about the recurring issue of members being habitually late. He noted that some members enter the Chamber after he has already taken his seat, emphasizing that this should not be the case.

To address this matter, the Speaker announced a punitive measure: going forward, the doors will be locked immediately upon his entry, and they will remain closed for a period of time before reopening. He believes that this approach will encourage members to arrive early, ensuring that the business of the day begins on schedule.

Additionally, Speaker Bagbin suggested that parliamentarians consider scheduling sittings in the afternoon, while committee meetings could be held in the morning.
